Our history
Gîtes de France is an association born of a mission of general interest: to safeguard the rural economy and maintain the people who make a living from it through the development of a homestay tourism activity.
Les Gîtes de France is 65 years of history around rural tourism. 
1955: Creation of the Fédération Nationale des Gîtes de France following the opening of the first rural gîte de Francec in the Basses-Alpes department
1969: L'épi becomes the emblem
1983: Launch of the 1st national guide Gîtes de France
1998: Opening of the national website www.gites-de-france.com
2007: Creation of the Ecogîte
2019 : Launch of the Gîtes de France Initiatives endowment fund
